My Key West

Sunset Pier

The first place and my main place I HAD to visit during my trip was Sunset Pier.  I’ve watched their webcams for many hours and totally fell in love with the place.  Being on the water with beverages and watching the sunset with amazing music in the background is basically heaven on earth.  No better place to be.  It’s a must see if you visit Key West.  Located at Ocean Key Resort & Spa and next to Mallory Square, it makes for a very easy visit both during the day and at sunset.

For drinks, you cannot go wrong.  There’s a lot of standard bears such as Heineken and Corona.  There are many local drinks as well.  I have to say I’ve loved having the Key West Sunset Ale.  Just overall a good beer. It was good enough to by 6 bottles for my condo during my stay. Nothing like a breakfast beer?

Food is amazing.  The Yucca Fries were recommended by a visiting couple when we chatted with them. They said it was good and we took a taste. Other items we tried were the Conch Fritters, jerk Wings, and Cuban Mix.  Very good choices.

Mix all of this together, and it’s a great trip to the pier.  Music that is provided is local and just wonderful to listen to.  No cover, but get there early for seating because the pier section to the north was damaged during Hurricane Irma.  Sitting on the pier section was part of my goal on this trip which was lost during the hurricane damage.  This means I will be back at some point!

My Key West Trip

in My Key West by (No comments)

My first trip to Key West was in November 2017. A group of 13 friends traveled to the little island for the National Offshore Boat Races.  All of us have families and decided this trip would be adults only.  This will be a very interesting since this group had been busy with small children. I will have multiple posts on this trip, but here I’ll give you an overview.

My wife, a friend, and I traveled the Sunday before the races to enjoy the calm before the storm.  Most of our group planned to arrive on Wednesday. I am so glad we did this. This way we could do some of the bucket list items we wanted to do. We flew into Fort Lauderdale and took a puddle jumper into Key West. It was an amazing flight, especially since I am working on my pilot’s license and have flown into Key West on my flight simulator many times.

After we landed we headed to our condo in Stock Island.  It’s a three bedroom, two floor townhouse locales in Coral Hammock area. Great place and we had a great view of the pool. The CVS next door was perfect for getting items we needed.

The first few days we hit the major tourist locations. Once our group arrived there were more restaurants and bar hopping along with a lot of shenanigans.

The end of the week was dedicated to the boat races and more shenanigans.

The trip back home was interesting. We are supposed to fly out of Key West, but due to flight scheduling issues, we ended up driving to Fort Lauderdale with a rental car. This was a great unplanned travel that I am glad it happened.
